How to form an LLC in Arizona, step by step
- Check the name in the ACC eCorp database — it must contain “LLC” or “Limited Liability Company” and be distinguishable.
- Name a statutory agent with an Arizona street address and get their signed acceptance.
- File Articles of Organization with the ACC — $50 ($85 total with expedited handling).
- Handle publication within 60 days unless your statutory agent is in Maricopa or Pima County (see quirks).
- Get a free EIN; register for an Arizona Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) license if your activity requires it.
- That’s it on an ongoing basis — Arizona requires no annual report and charges no annual fee.
Arizona quirks that change the real cost
- No annual report, ever — Arizona is one of the cheapest states to *keep* an LLC, not just to start one.
- Publication: if the statutory agent’s address is in Maricopa or Pima County, the ACC publishes the Articles online for free and no newspaper step is needed. Outside those counties you must publish in an approved newspaper for 3 consecutive publications (one roundup puts this at roughly $80–$120).
- Member-managed vs manager-managed structure must be stated correctly in the Articles — fixing it later means a $25 amendment.
Registered agent: hire one or be your own?
A commercial agent typically costs $100–$300 a year; acting as your own is free if you meet the address rules. The full cost guide: Registered agent cost guide →
